Institute of Human Rights Advocacy and Research conducted a one day “Advanced Training for Women’s Rights: Monitoring the Implementation of PWDV Act and State Mechanisms” on 10 March 2017 at Chennai. 30 participants including 3 men participated and gained through advance training.
In the inaugural Session Ms. Audrey D’Mello, Programme Director, Majlis Legal Centre addressed the gathering on the experience and lessons learnt about Domestic Violence in Maharashtra, Dr. Shanmuga Velayutham, Convenor, TN Forces explained about International standards of gender justice and SDGs: Indicators, integration and implementation (monitoring and mobilization), Ms. Saroja Thiruvengadam, Deputy Director, The Commissionerate of Social Welfare delivered a speech on The Enforcement of PWDVA 2005 and the experience in Tamil Nadu, mapping institutions/ state mechanisms for PWDVA: Tools and Techniques for monitoring the rights of women at different levels (district, state).
In the final session certificates were distributed to the participants by Qudsia Gandhi, I.A.S., Former Chairperson & MD, (POWERFIN). The participants expressed their views in the feedback form provided and confirmed that they would create awareness to affected women and monitor the implementation of PWDVA and the state mechanisms in their area through this training.
